Charlotte Holiday Fun on a Budget Nov 18-20

I dont believe that getting out with the kiddos should have to cost an arm and a leg.  There are LOTS of things to do if you dont mind spending $10-$20 per person....but if you have a big family that can take a tole on your budget.  Here are a few things this week that you can do for FREE or little cost with your Family!

Something for Mom - November 10-20
Located at the Park Expo Conference Center, this years Southern Christmas Show is not to be missed.  Come see the holiday trees, mantels and doors.  Visit the Christmas Village or enjoy tasty treats.  You will be able to take care of everyone on your list in one spot.   So come dressed in your holiday best and be prepared for a good time!  Cost is $3-$8.  Go here for more information.

South Park Tree Lighting

Event starts at 5:00 p.m. at Symphony Park.   Tree Ligting is at 7:30pm.  Free Musis by The Mr. Nigel & Friends band and plenty of activities for the kiddos. Santa will make a special appearance to help light the tree.  Finally, there will be a screening of 3 Holiday Favorites for the Kiddo (and Kiddos at Heart) to enjoy: A Charlie Brown Christmas, Shrek The Halls and Frosty the Snowman. Event is free and lawn chairs and blankets are welcome.  Go here for to find it on Face Book.

Concord Tree Lighting
The event is FREE to the public, and free parking is available in the Cabarrus Avenue Parking deck or on-street in the surrounding area. Downtown businesses will be open late tonight for shopping and dining.

5:30: Motorized Trolley, Horse-drawn carriage rides, and children’s activities begin
6:00: Opening Ceremony, music from The Choral Academy
6:27: Tree Lighting
6:45: Music from Irvin and Pitts School Road Elementary Schools
7:25: Fireworks!

Also, be sure to visit the Cabarrus Arts Council’s Art Walk from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Following the Art Walk the Arts Council will present a free viewing of Tearing Down the Tent, a circus documentary, in the Davis Theatre located in the Historic Courthouse.  Go Here for More Information.

Family Game Night at The Brain Trainer
A family fun event that everyone will love! Just in time for the holidays, come out to play some fun brain games. We feature games from Mindware, Out of the Box, Set and Think Fun. Our games are for ages 4 to adult and work on skills such as Attention, Processing Speed, Visual and Auditory Processing.

Zootastic Park Christmas Wonderland Lights
This event is not free but at $5.00 per person it is certainly a good buy.  Event takes place at Zootastic Park of Lake Norman and runs from November 18-20, 6:00pm-10:00pm  This is the parks largest annual event.   Take your family on a drive through 2 miles of forest and enjoy over 1.2 million lights. Santa joins the celebration each night. Hot cocoa, pony rides, petting zoos and much more are available for the kids. Go Here fotr More Information.

Sunday Fun Day
Event takes place at the Mint Museum Uptown at Levine Center for the Arts on November 20,  from 10:00am-6:00pm. Families can participate in craft projects, family tours, movement activities, artst demonstrations and more! November’s theme is Twine, Knot, Wrap and Twist. Help celebrate 50 years of fiber art, from the miniature to the monumental, by international artist Sheila Hicks. Collaborate with your family to create a fiber art construction, with artist Janet Lasher, try out stitching and weaving, tour the exhibition, and get “twisted” at a family yoga session. Cost is FREE for children & Mint Members,  $5.00 (half-price) for adults.  More information located here.

Union County Christmas Parade

Located in Historic Downtown Monroe parade takes place from 2-4pm.  You wont want to miss this event.  The Union County Christmas Parade is a 60+ year old tradition that brings thousands of parade goers to downtown Monroe. With over 200 floats and entries each year, it is a festival of the sights and sounds of the holiday from organizations, businesses, school groups and individuals.
